BILL ALLOWING STATE TO SEEK DEATH PENALTY FOR CHILD RAPISTS HEADING TO GOVERNOR’S DESK

A bill that would allow the state to seek the death penalty for those convicted of rape of a child passed the House of Representatives yesterday.

It now heads to Governor Bill Lee’s desk for his signature to become law.

House Majority Leader William Lamberth (R-Portland) is the sponsor of House Bill 1663, which allow for those convicted of rape or especially aggravated rape of a child in Tennessee to be sentenced to death.
