Billy Ray Henson, 62

Billy Ray Henson, 62, of Crossville, TN, passed away on August 28, 2025, in his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born June 27, 1963, in Maysville, KY, to the late Billy Ray Henson and Bessie (Orme) Crum, and was lovingly raised by his stepfather, John Crum.
Billy Ray spent many years working for General Motors in Dayton, OH, and later at Fairfield Glade Community Club as a sanitation foreman. He was proud of his work, but his greatest joy in life was always his family. He was a devoted husband, dad, and papaw who gave everyone a nickname and made each person feel special.
He never met a stranger and was truly a friend to all. If you knew Billy Ray, you knew his big smile, his kind heart, and how he could make you laugh. He loved watching football, cooking up good food, and just being surrounded by the people he loved most.
He leaves behind his wife of 35 years, Darlene Henson of Crossville; daughters, Cierra N. “C Bug” Richards (Christopher) and Danielle D. “Cake” Sutton (Micheal), both of Crossville; brothers, David Henson (Shelby) of Kentucky, Kevin Carpenter (Molly) of Indiana, and Billy Parsons (Danielle) of Pennsylvania; sister, Tammy Schmidt (Tim) of Butte, Montana; and his grandchildren who were the light of his life: Kensley “Kens” Richards, Brylee “BK” Richards, Chloe “Clo” Richards, Grayson “Graystone” Richards, McKenzie “McKennie” Sutton, and Levi “Lee-ster” Sutton all of Crossville. He is also survived by his stepmother, Faye Henson of Kentucky, brother-in-law Donald Hyder, sister-in-law Debbie Fogle, and a big extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins who all loved him dearly.
He was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, his stepfather John Crum, his sister-in-law Donna Hyder, and his father-in-law Jack Hyder.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Hood Funeral Home, with visitation from 12:00–2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Slate Springs Cemetery.
Billy Ray will be remembered for his love of family, his generous spirit, and the way he brought joy and laughter wherever he went. His memory will live on in all the lives he touched.
