BOARD OF EDUCATION TO HOLD SPECIAL “RETREAT” MEETING THIS SATURDAY
The Cumberland County Board of Education will hold a special retreat meeting this Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at the central office on 4th Street.
Items to be discussed on the agenda include a re-evaluation of the Director of Schools, William Stepp, and his contract, a self-evaluation of the Board of Education, and a discussion to determine the Board of Education and the Director of Schools as plans for working together.
They will also be reviewing the vision and mission statement of the Board of Education and discussing a 5-year plan for the future of Cumberland County Schools.
The meeting is likely due to the board of education’s meeting last month where the board voted 5-4 against renewing William Stepp’s contract as director of schools. This decision was met with immense backlash from the community, and a recent meeting by the County education committee allowed community members to let their voices be heard. That education committee meeting would see overwhelming support in favor of keeping William Stepp on board as director.
