31-year-old Benjamin Thomen left on his kayak to paddle to the Willow Grove Marina for supplies. However, when Thomen didn’t return to the campsite, his friends started asking around at the marina.

According to the TWRA, about five hours after, he was spotted by an angler near Goat Island.

Multiple agencies responded to search for the missing kayaker. Around 9 AM on Sunday morning,  Thomen’s kayak was found.

According to officials, his body was found near Big Goat Island and was recovered just before 5 PM. Thomen’s body was taken for medical examination. He was not wearing a life jacket.

This is the sixth boating fatality this year. The incident remains under investigation.
