BURGLAR BREAKS INTO NOCATEE TRACE HOME; STEALS FISHING POLES

Yesterday at around 12:13 p.m. Deputy Ed Wozniak was dispatched to the area of Nocatee Trace regarding a burglary. Upon arriving the deputy met the owner of the residence and her son.

The rear entry door had a small window broken out, a likely point of entry for the burglar. After breaking the window, the subject reached in and unlocked the door, and apparently, at some point, a window was broken in the kitchen area with a BB or .177 caliber pellet.

The deputy observed four holes in the storm window and inner window, with indications the pellets were fired from the backyard area at that window. There was also an outside wall mount light near the back door that was taken.

The interior of the home was not ransacked or disturbed with the only items taken being cleaning supplies. Various other items of much higher value, including a television, radio, and clothing were left undisturbed.

In the backyard, a shed was entered into after prying off the lock. Items were taken from the shed including four or five heavy saltwater fishing poles, as well as some charcoal, gas cans, wrenches, pliers, and other small mechanics hand tools.

The victim’s neighbor said he saw a subject running from the area about a week to 10 days ago and that he had items taken from his house as well but didn’t wish to make a report. The neighbor had come over to the house when the homeowner asked for his help securing the door and window which is how he became aware of the incident.

Currently, no suspect has been named and no charges have been filed.
