Since the federal holiday officially known as Juneteenth National Independence Day falls on Sunday, June 19, this year, it will be observed in many places on Monday, June 20. Juneteenth, short for “June Nineteenth,” is sometimes referred to as Emancipation Day.

All federal government buildings and government offices will be closed on Monday, June 20 for Juneteeth.

Most U.S. banks and their branches will be closed on June 20.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) will be closed on Monday, June 20, as well.

In addition, the US stock market and the bond market will be closed Monday, June 20, in observance of Juneteenth.

UPS will not be running on Sunday, June 19, however, please check with your local store for their modified business hours.

FedEx does not have Juneteenth listed as a company holiday on its website as of now.

Juneteenth is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. It is also often observed for celebrating African-American culture. Originating in Galveston, Texas, it has been celebrated annually on June 19 in various parts of the United States since 1865. Juneteenth is also known as Emancipation Day, Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, Juneteenth Independence Day, and Black Independence Day.

Congress and President Biden moved to establish Juneteenth as a federal holiday in June 2021, and the holiday went into effect immediately.
