CEREMONY HELD TO HONOR RETIRING K-9 OFFICER

A special ceremony was held yesterday at the 8th Judicial District Attorney General’s Office in Jamestown to recognize the retirement of a Fentress County K-9.

A small crowd gathered to witness Sheriff Michael Reagon present K-9 Officer “Gemma” with a Retirement Certificate for her 5 years of dedicated service to the department.

Gemma, a 7-year-old female Belgian Malinois, began her law enforcement career with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office before coming to Fentress County.

Over the last 5 years, Gemma was utilized on frequent drug stops, assisted with multiple searches, and always provided for officer safety.

In recognizing Gemma, Philip A. Kazee, Assistant District Attorney General, thanked her for her service. Kazee stated “Gemma, thank you for your stellar career in drug interdiction and fugitive apprehension as a Fentress County law enforcement officer. Enjoy your retirement, eat plenty of dog treats, and keep the squirrels under control in Fentress County!”
