COCKE COUNTY CORRECTIONS OFFICER SHOT AND KILLED

The Greeneville Police Department and TBI responded to an officer-involved shooting that killed a Cocke County corrections officer late yesterday at Lowes on East Andrew Johnson Highway. Authorities say a Greeneville police officer responded to a domestic hit-and-run at the Lowes. The suspect was identified as Cocke County Corrections Officer 29-year-old Travis Mullins. Investigators believe Mullins was off-duty at the time and targeting a woman he had been dating. When the Greeneville officer encountered Mullins, they said he was still in his uniform and armed with a gun. The Greeneville police officer was able to disarm Mullins and then attempted to arrest him, when they said Mullins was able to somehow get inside his vehicle and  grab a second gun. Mullins then allegedly pointed the gun at the Greeneville police officer, and the officer fatally shot Mullins. The Greeneville officer was not hurt. The investigation is ongoing.
