CONVICTED FELON TELLS DEPUTY A RIFLE BELONGS TO HIS EIGHT-YEAR-OLD SON

On Monday, Deputy Ethan Wilson conducted a traffic stop on a black Chevrolet truck at County Seat Road for a tag light violation. The deputy made contact with the driver and identified him as Brandon Jones. While speaking with Jones, the deputy noticed a firearm lying in the back floorboard of the vehicle.
Having prior knowledge that Jones was a convicted felon, the deputy asked him to step from the vehicle and then detained him. When questioned about the firearm, Jones said it was his son’s rifle.
However, Jones’s son is only 8 years old and can’t purchase a firearm.
After detaining him, Deputy Wilson retrieved the firearm from the vehicle and identified it as a Marlin .22 model 60. The firearm was loaded and had a round in the chamber.
Dispatch was contacted and asked to run a criminal history on Jones to confirm if he was still a convicted felon to which dispatched said he was convicted of his felony in August of 2022.
Jones was placed into custody and transported to the Cumberland County Justice Center for felony possession of a weapon.
