COOKEVILLE PD RECEIVES 2025 AWARD OF APPRECIATION
From the Cookeville Police Department:
We are proud to announce that the Cookeville Police Department has received the 2025 Award of Appreciation from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Evie Watanabe for our work in pioneering the Handle with Care Program in the State of Tennessee.
Throughout 2024, our department made 116 notifications, ensuring that children impacted by traumatic events received the care and support they needed in school and beyond. This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our officers and community partners who work tirelessly to protect and serve our most vulnerable.
Our success with Handle with Care would not have been possible without the strong collaboration between the Cookeville Police Department, Putnam County School System, Power of Putnam, and our Victim Services team. Amy Gibson and Mateo Huerta with Power of Putnam have been instrumental in fostering community engagement and prevention efforts, while Victim Services Coordinator Tara Bates and Therapy K9 Watson have provided critical support and advocacy for those in need. This partnership has allowed us to expand our reach and ensure that children facing trauma receive the understanding and care they deserve.
At the Cookeville Police Department, we believe that no child should have to carry trauma alone. Handle with Care ensures that when children experience crisis, their schools are notified discreetly, allowing teachers and staff to provide extra support and understanding. Together, we are building a stronger, more compassionate community—one child at a time.
