CORVETTE OVERCOMES INJURY FOR TCCAA GOLFER OF THE WEEK HONOR

Raegan Corvette, a sophomore golfer for Roane State Community College, earned TCCAA Region 7 Women’s Golfer of the Week honors despite competing with a significant ACL injury in her knee. The injury limited her swing to upper-body mechanics only—no lower body turn, hips, or knee involvement—forced her to use a cart due to pain, and required her to rely entirely on arm strength for shots, resulting in shorter distances.
At the Snead State Spring Invitational held at Azalea City Golf Club in Mobile, Alabama, she delivered consistent performance across challenging conditions, including 38-degree temperatures, steady 20 mph winds with gusts up to 25-30 mph, and fast greens on the par-72, 5,800-yard layout. Corvette opened with an 87 to tie for ninth individually, leaning heavily on her short game, chipping, and up-and-downs to compensate for distance limitations. On the second day, she adjusted to quicker greens, improved her iron approaches while maintaining fairway accuracy, and stayed patient to minimize errors despite reduced power.
Her resilience helped anchor the Lady Raiders to an eighth-place team finish, just three shots off sixth after round one. Coach Rick Maharry praised her adaptability and consistency using only half her body, noting her frustration with not hitting like before but expressing confidence in her recovery.
The team now prepares for the upcoming Jefferson State Community College tournament in Pensacola, Florida, on an unfamiliar course with similar dry fairways and quick greens, emphasizing continued focus on resilience, small adjustments in tough conditions, and patience as they build toward district qualifiers.
