COUPLE WITHDRAWS $20K AT CROSSVILLE BANK AFTER DEPOSITING FRAUDULENT CHECK

City officers were dispatched to a bank in Crossville Tuesday for a possible fraudulent check.

When speaking to the Branch Manager, he told officers that a couple identified as Jacob and Rachel Brewer (of Pikeville) deposited a fraudulent check in the Dunlap branch on Monday for $28,800.16. The bank teller at the Dunlap branch did not put a hold on the check per protocol. That same day, Ms. Brewer came to the Crossville branch where she withdrew $20,000 from the account.

The bank later discovered the check was fraudulent and contacted the couple. They told the bank that it was a mistake and they would make it right. According to the police report, the manager stated they attempted to deposit two more checks to cover the withdrawal, however, those were fraudulent as well.

This case is under investigation.
