KINGSTON CRASH CAUSED MAJOR DELAYS THIS MORNING ON I40

KINGSTON, TN-  A two-vehicle accident on Interstate 40 near Kingston occurred just after 7:00 (Eastern time) this morning shutting down westbound traffic near the 354-mile marker.

A box-type cab-over truck slammed into the rear of a tractor-trailer, pinning the driver inside. Kingston Fire Chief, Willie Gordon, and his crews were sent to the scene to extricate the driver from the wreckage. He stated it took about an hour to get the driver freed from the wreckage and was sent to a Knoxville Hospital by ambulance with several fractured bones but non-life threatening injuries.

Traffic had backed up earlier due to a call stating that a male subject was struck by a vehicle in the area. Chief Gordon told us, that several law enforcement vehicles were in the area looking for that incident, but it never revealed any person being run over. Traffic was congested in the area when the multi-vehicle crash occurred.

The THP is handling the crash report and we will have more on this when we obtain the accident report.
