CROSSVILLE CITY COUNCIL SETS EYES ON TWO GRANTS FOR MEADOW PARK LAKE

The Crossville City Council has its eyes set on a couple of potential projects at Meadow Park Lake.

The first project regards a 2024 Recreational Trails Program Grant that the city will need to approve applying for. City staff are urging the council to select Community Development Partners LLC for administrative services with the goal of constructing a trailhead at Meadow Park Lake.

The next project is a new pedestrian bridge to be built at Meadow Park Lake with the intent to use money through a grant called Project Diabetes.

Project Diabetes is a program through the Tennessee Department of Health whose purpose is to fund projects to prevent diseases such as diabetes from ever occurring.

They hope to achieve this through changing policies, systems, or even the environment and the communities to tackle health issues such as obesity, diabetes, cancer, and other chronic illnesses.

The city was presented with two types of grants: the “Category A” grant where applicants can apply for a grant of up to 3 years with funds not exceeding $150,000 per year for a maximum total of $450,000; or the “Category B” Grant where applicants could earn a grant for smaller community-based projects of up to 2 years with funds not to exceed $15,000 per year for a maximum of $30,000.

Of the two options, the city will vote on whether or not to pursue a “Category A” grant.

The city will vote to approve applications for these grants next week at the city council meeting at 6:00 on Tuesday.
