CROSSVILLE WOMAN GETS NEW PHONE AND PLAN SHE NEVER ASKED FOR
Yesterday, Deputy Tristan Partridge spoke to a woman in the Justice Center lobby in reference to an identity theft. The woman said that on Tuesday she received a bill from Verizon in the mail for $160.90 for an Apple iPhone 13 pro Max that showed a new plan date of December 29th of last year.
The woman said she did not purchase this phone and had no knowledge of how a new phone was purchased and the plan activated in her name. She went even further to say that she’s never had an account with Verizon at all. She owns an iPhone 11 and uses T-Mobile as a carrier.
She contacted Verizon’s fraud department to dispute the account, but Verizon denied doing so and stated a police report would be required along with a claim being made. She had already driven to the Verizon location located in Smithville and spoke to a store manager in person about the issue.
The manager was able to look up the account number, phone number, and invoice number and then contacted the fraud department herself but was unable to receive any other information and was once again told by the fraud department that a police report was required before any other information could be provided.
The woman then provided the deputy with copies of all paperwork and bills received in the mail.
Since no suspects have been named or charged, no arrests have been made as of yet.
