The Cumberland County Community Band’s next concert, “Musical Miscellanea,” is scheduled for June 27 at 7 p.m. in the Stone Memorial High School auditorium. As the concert title suggests, there is no “theme” or common thread that ties these selections together. Unlike past thematic concerts such as Music Americana, Around the World in 80 Minutes, and Made In The USA…. Musical Miscellanea will be “a mixed bag,” a “gallimaufry” and a “smorgasbord” of unrelated musical pieces that should include something that appeals to every musical palate.

Terri Utsey will be the featured vocalist and a trio of our own trumpeters (Bob Aanerud, Mike Chilcutt and Chris Schaumberg) will perform Leroy Anderson’s “Bugler’s Holiday.”

We’ll take our audience on what historian Joel Chandler Harris has called “the boldest adventure of the [Civil] war with Robert W. Smith’s “The Great Locomotive Chase” and we’ll visit the opera house with Bizet’s “Gypsy Dance” from Carmen.

If none of that “wets your whistle,” maybe “Blues Brothers In Review” or “Selections from Mary Poppins” will awaken your musical tastebuds.

And if you have not heard the “Enchanted Woods” clarinet ensemble, be sure to come early. This talented group of CCCB musicians will be performing before the concert, from 6:20-6:40.

As always, the CCCB promises to present an evening of entertaining music, carefully selected, well prepared and performed free of charge.
