CUMBERLAND COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE WARNS OF JURY DUTY SCAM
From the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office:
The Sheriff’s Office wants to alert the public of a phone scam circulating in our community.
We do not have an employee by the name of Matt Johnson employed with the Sheriff’s Office. We will never call or text you to inform you of an arrest warrant for missing jury duty.
The scammer is using the phone number 931-410-2439 to contact individuals. If you receive a call or message from anyone claiming to be from the Sheriff’s Office stating that you have a warrant for your arrest due to missed jury duty, please contact us immediately at (931) 484-6176 to report the incident.
This is a scam designed to obtain your personal information or money. The Sheriff’s Office will never ask for payment through PayPal, Bitcoin, Venmo, Cash App, Zelle, or any other internet payment apps.
Protect yourself — never give out your personal or financial information over the phone to unknown callers. If you are ever in doubt about the legitimacy of a call, hang up and contact the Sheriff’s Office directly.
