CUMBERLAND INVESTIGATOR LOOKS INTO POSSIBLE HACKER AND THEFT
According to investigator Bobby Moore with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, last month, on January 22nd, the Owner of Fair Play Motor Freight contacted investigator Moore via email, saying he had been hacked again through his email.
The man brought the investigator documentation showing the hacker’s IP address and said his IT worker for his company told him that the IP address was not hidden by a VPN and may come back to the subscriber on the account.
Moore had worked the previous case for this man dealing with the same possible suspect. Moore subpoenaed the IP in that case, and AT&T was unable to provide the subscriber information. Moore said in his report that he’s going to send another subpoena in this case and try again.
The loss on this particular new incident is estimated to be around $10,000.
According to Moore’s report, the scam appears to be carried out by hacking into the freight company’s load bidding and getting the bid by the hacker, who in turn gets paid under the name Fair Play Motor Freight but never actually picks up the load and delivers it.
