David Metz, 71
It is with deep love and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of David Metz, who left us unexpectedly on October 8, 2026. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 32 years, Dawn, and a proud father to their two children, Elizabeth and Alex, and a loving brother to Ralph. He was preceded in death by his parents Chuck and Shirley Metz.
Born in Illinois, he was grateful to spend his final years in Tennessee, a place in which he often said he was so blessed to spend his final chapter surrounded by its beauty and a wonderful community of people.
He served his country as a veteran of the 101st Airborne division, a role he took great pride in throughout his life. That same discipline and dedication carried into his love of martial arts. A third degree black belt in karate, he spent many years teaching students of all ages – sharing not just technique, but confidence, respect and the joy of learning.
He also had a lifelong love of horses, finding bliss and connection with them. Whether riding, caring for them, or simply being near them, horses brought him a sense of calm and purpose.
In recent years, he found great fulfillment volunteering at the Military Memorial Museum in Crossville, where he enjoyed sharing his knowledge, stories, and passion for history with visitors. Teaching, guiding, and giving back were among his greatest joys.
He will be remembered for his devotion to his family and service to others. His legacy lives in the hearts of his wife and children and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
