DECATUR MAN CHARGED WITH 2ND-DEGREE MURDER AFTER FATAL SHOOTING

A joint investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office has led to the arrest of Tyler Steven Meadows, 32, of Decatur, in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred Saturday evening at a residence in the 400 block of Shiloh Road in Decatur. Deputies responding to the scene found Jeffery Kendall Barton, 58, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Investigators identified Meadows as the person responsible for Barton’s death. This morning, agents obtained a warrant charging Meadows with second-degree murder, and he was subsequently arrested and booked into the Meigs County Jail.

As with all such cases, the charges are merely accusations, and Meadows is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
