DEKALB COUNTY FIREFIGHTERS BATTLE INTENSE BARN BLAZE IN EXTREME HEAT
A fierce afternoon fire destroyed a barn and threatened a nearby home at the intersection of Highway 96 and Highway 70, according to the DeKalb County Fire Department.
At approximately 2:05 p.m. on Sunday, emergency crews arrived to find the barn fully engulfed in flames, with intense heat impinging on a residence located just 30 feet away. While the barn and its contents were a total loss, firefighters successfully stopped the fire from consuming the home, which sustained only minor exterior damage to its vinyl siding.
Battling the blaze for several hours in extreme heat while wearing full gear took a toll on the response team. Three firefighters received on-scene treatment for heat exhaustion, and one sustained a minor burn. No civilian injuries were reported.
