DEKALB COUNTY TEEN CHARGED WITH MAKING THREATS OF MASS VIOLENCE

WVLT reports that on August 27, 2025, a 17-year-old student from DeKalb County High School in Tennessee was charged with making a threat of mass violence on school property after allegedly threatening to carry out a shooting. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office was alerted after a student, who heard the threats on a school bus, informed the principal via email.

This prompted an investigation involving the school resource officer, a sheriff’s detective, and a Department of Homeland Security agent. The investigation identified the 17-year-old suspect, who reportedly admitted to making the threats during a visit to his home, though no weapons or threatening notes were found.

The teen had told another student not to attend school on August 28, claiming he would bring a gun and referencing a similar threat made by his brother the previous year. The suspect was taken into custody that evening and is being held at a detention center pending a juvenile court hearing.

No further details have been released.
