DEPUTY MOWERY’S AUTOPSY RELEASED; REVEALS CAUSE OF DEATH
The autopsy report for Blount County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Justin Mowery, who was 30 years old, revealed that he died at the scene from head injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash on December 28, 2025. The incident occurred while Mowery was pursuing a recklessly driving motorcyclist; he was traveling at 65 mph in a 35 mph zone near 4240 Miser Station Road in Louisville when he lost control on a curve.
Mowery was not wearing a seat belt, causing his cruiser to veer off the road, strike a telephone pole and a tree, and come to a stop after he was partially ejected. Bystanders who heard the crash rushed to assist and used his radio to alert dispatch.
Mowery had joined the sheriff’s office in May 2020, graduating from the BCSO Regional Training Academy that October, and was selected for the SWAT team in December 2021; prior to that, he worked as a security officer at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
Following the crash, authorities sought public assistance in identifying the motorcyclist, leading to the arrest days later of 24-year-old Dalton Michael Bowman of Lenoir City, who faced charges including evading arrest, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, driving on a suspended license, driving without a license, and possession of methamphetamine.
