DETAILS ON TODAY’S TORNADO IN LOUDON COUNTY

An EF-0 tornado with 85 mph winds touched down near the Loudon-Monroe county line in Tennessee on Friday morning around 8:30 a.m., causing damage in the Philadelphia area, particularly along Holt Road. The tornado traveled approximately two miles with a maximum width of 200 yards. At least five people were injured, with four taken to a hospital from the Sweetwater area and one additional injury reported.

The storm caused significant structural damage, including a rolled camper, downed power lines, trees, and debris. Residents were advised to avoid the area, assume downed power lines are live, and not enter damaged buildings until cleared by authorities.

The Loudon County Sheriff’s Office and other first responders were on the scene, and the National Weather Service issued a Tornado Warning for nearby areas, including Greenback, Townsend, and Walland, until 9:45 a.m.

A local bakery provided free food and water to support affected residents.

A National Weather Service survey team was scheduled to assess the damage further.
