DETAILS ON TUESDAY’S FATAL I-40 CRASH

A fatal crash on I-40 East in Loudon County, Tennessee, occurred around 2:40 p.m. on Tuesday, shutting down the highway for hours. A tractor-trailer stopped due to congestion from highway maintenance near mile marker 365.
A 17-year-old driving a Geo Tracker slowed behind the truck but was rear-ended by a Mercedes GLC 300 driven by 32-year-old Ashley Jones, pushing the Tracker into the trailer. The teen died from injuries, and Jones was injured.
Charges are pending, and all lanes reopened by 6:30 p.m., per TDOT.
