Donald W. Chase, Jr., 84
Donald W. Chase, Jr., 84, of Crossville, Tennessee, passed away at home after a short illness on March 30, 2025. Born on August 14, 1940, in Meadville, Pennsylvania, Don was the beloved son of Donald W. “Buss” Chase and Mabel Chase (Higham).
Don pursued his education at the Pennsylvania State University, where he was a proud member of the Kappa Delta Rho fraternity, and later graduated from Thiel College in 1964 with a degree in Political Science. Shortly thereafter, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Army on December 31, 1964. He served honorably until December 12, 1967, achieving the rank of Sergeant E-5.
Don embarked on a distinguished and impactful career in federal law enforcement beginning on June 1, 1970. Over nearly three decades, he served in numerous field and supervisory roles within the Department of Justice. He retired on August 1, 1997, having earned widespread recognition and numerous awards for his work ethic, professionalism, and skillful and diligent exercise of his duties. Throughout his career, Don was unwavering in his commitment to protecting the public, mentoring law enforcement personnel, and upholding the laws designed to safeguard public health, safety, and national security. He was deeply respected by colleagues and those he trained, and his leadership left a lasting legacy.
Don was more than his accomplishments—he was a man of character, courage, and great kindness. He was a true hero who led by example and inspired all who knew him. Outside of his professional life, Don found joy in the simple pleasures: spending time with his family and cherished friends and neighbors, tending to his vegetable garden, enjoying rounds of golf, watching the news, and taking his beloved dog, Chanel, to the local dog park.
Don is survived by his devoted wife of 21 years, Donna Chase (Aikens), who was the love of his life; his children, Shannon Chase Gierasch and Donald W. Chase, III; and eight adored grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fairfield Glade Dog Park in memory of Don Chase, c/o Mary Anne Rowe, 22 Lake Forest Lane, Crossville, TN 38558.
Don’s legacy of service and integrity lives on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
