DOROTHY LOUISE LAWSON MCDANIEL, AGE 87

Dorothy Louise Lawson McDaniel, age 87, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at White House Healthcare and Rehabilitation on February 9, surrounded by a host of loving family and friends, after a long and fruitful life lived in the service of others.

A beloved resident of the Crab Orchard community in Cumberland County, Dorothy was the proprietor of Mc’s Grocery and a dedicated member of the Crab Orchard Church of God of Prophecy. Dorothy will always be remembered for her love and dedication to her family, her church, and her community, and was a tireless worker in every endeavor she pursued. She had many talents and interests including a love of birds, and holidays (she loved making special decorations) and was an excellent seamstress (making beautiful clothes for her family).

She was also a passionate supporter of educational goals for herself and her family and even for her community by hosting a community library at her store in Crab Orchard. She is so appreciated for her many kindnesses to the community, both as storekeeper and resident librarian, and will be sorely missed as the treasured friend she was to one and all.

Dorothy was born on December 3, 1936, in Alcoa, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Raymond Dell Lawson and Ernestine (Sanders) Lawson.

She is survived by her children: Marcia Jervis (Craig), Joyce McDaniel, Raymond McDaniel (Lisa), and Lynn McDaniel (Chandra); grandchildren: Cory, Cole, Jacob, and Conner McDaniel; great-grandchildren: Carson, Hayden, Kennedy, and Cayson McDaniel; brothers: Chan Lawson, Raymond “Dell” Lawson (Martha), Jack Lawson (Joyce), and Don Lawson (Alisa); and sister: Pat Fuller (Gary).

Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving parents; her husband: Starling McDaniel; infant son: David Paul McDaniel; and sisters-in-law: Mildred Lawson and Betty Lawson.
