MORGAN COUNTY MAN ARRESTED FOR AGGRAVATED ASSAULT WITH DEADLY WEAPON

Morgan County deputies responded yesterday to a report of an armed subject threatening an employee of MOCO Mutts, a non-profit animal shelter in the Sunbright area.

Officers arrived and encountered 60-year-old Randy Ray Roberts who had discharged several shots into the building, attempting to make entry. When those attempts failed, Roberts broke out a window and entered the shelter.

Roberts believed his dog was inside the building.

Law enforcement says his dog was not there. There were no animals injured in the incident.

After a brief altercation with law enforcement, Roberts was taken into custody and transported to Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge for treatment.

Deputies say Roberts will be charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, vandalism, and reckless endangerment.
