DRIVER ARRESTED AFTER ENGAGING KNOXVILLE POLICE IN CHASE, CRASHING IN LAKE

A report of bizarre events led to a foot chase after a Kodak man careened into Fountain City Lake over the weekend.

Knoxville police were alerted Sunday to a man stopped at a stop sign, punching himself in the face and waving other motorists around him.

They arrived to find 31-year-old Jackie Strong asleep in the vehicle. They approached and tried to open the door. Awakened, Strong refused to open the door and reached toward his waist with both hands. Then he sped off, heading west on Cedar Lane.

Officers followed.

The police abandoned the pursuit when Strong accelerated to high speeds in dense traffic on Cedar Lane. Minutes later, Strong drove his vehicle into Fountain Lake and fled on foot.

He was eventually apprehended in a backyard along the 2500 block of Fair Drive.

After administering a dose of naloxone, officers took Strong into custody without incident. He’s charged with reckless driving, driving under the influence, no insurance and evading arrest.
