Anderson County authorities responded last night to a reported drowning in the Claxton community off New Henderson Road.

Officers received a call about the drowning around 8:25 p.m. involving 21-year-old Robert J. Blanchard of Powell.

Blanchard went into the water to swim. Soon after, he was yelling for help before going underwater. Blanchard never resurfaced.

Crews from the Claxton Volunteer Fire Department, the Anderson County Rescue Squad, and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office’s dive team helped with the search.
