EXECUTION DATE FOR SUTTON CONVICTED OF THE MURDER OF A MAN IN MORGAN COUNTY
The Tennessee Supreme Court set an execution date for a death row inmate convicted of the murder of a man in Morgan County back in 1985. Nicholas Todd Sutton is scheduled to be put to death February 20, 2020. Sutton was found guilty of the murder of Carl Estep while both were incarcerated at the Morgan County Regional Correctional Facility. Officers say Sutton stabbed Estep over 20 times. He was earlier convicted of the murder of his grandmother in Morristown. After his conviction, he led detectives to his aunt’s property in Waterville, North Carolina, where he had beaten, killed and buried John Large. Detectives also linked him with the death of 46-year-old Charles Almon. Sutton admitted to shooting Almon at his aunt’s North Carolina property before disposing of the body in a rock quarry.
