FAIRFIELD MAN SCAMMED OUT OF $500

On Wednesday last week, at around 6:22 pm Officer David Beaty of the Fairfield Glade Police Department received a call from dispatch of a subject needing to speak with an officer regarding a scam. The officer called the complainant who stated he had been scammed out of $500 from someone selling a used car on a local trader site.

The victim told the officer the alleged scammer’s name, who seemed to be from Jamestown. The officer asked how the victim had paid them, to which the victim said he paid with $100.00 Apple gift cards. The officer went to the victim’s home and took pictures of his phone showing the info on the vehicle and the text exchanges between the parties.

The complainant said he purchased the Apple gift cards at Walgreens in Crossville for $100.00 each a total of five gift cards. The officer advised the complainant that he had lost his $500.00 dollars and he stated he should have known better, that it was too good of a deal.

He also said his mother had worked with a lady at Cracker Barrel who had a name similar to the name of the supposed scammer which is why he thought the deal may have been legitimate.

He also told the officer that the worker at Walgreens who sold him the gift cards said to watch out for scams.
