On January 26, 2026, at approximately 1:09 a.m., the Fall Creek Falls Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire on Pine Grove Road along with Piney fire dept as part of automatic mutual aid to assist Spencer Fire Rescue.

Upon arrival, first-due units observed heavy smoke and visible flames coming from the residence. Fire crews immediately initiated a defensive fire attack and transitioned to a offensive attack when more personnel arrived.

After several hours the fire was brought under control, and remaining hotspots were fully extinguished. Fire dept efforts were hindered by extreme cold temperatures and icy road conditions. The structure sustained significant damage as a result of the fire.

Additional assistance at the scene was provided by the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office, Van Buren County EMS, and Van Buren County Highway Dept.
