FAMED FILM COMPOSER LALO SCHIFRIN PASSES AWAY AT 93

Lalo Schifrin, the renowned composer behind the iconic “Mission: Impossible” theme, died at 93 in Los Angeles due to pneumonia complications. Born in Buenos Aires, Schifrin was a versatile musician, winning four Grammys and earning six Oscar nominations for scores like “Cool Hand Luke” and “The Amityville Horror.”

His “Mission: Impossible” theme, written in a distinctive 5/4 time, became a cultural touchstone, earning Grammy recognition and inspiring covers, including by U2’s Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. Schifrin’s career spanned jazz, classical, and film, collaborating with legends like Dizzy Gillespie and composing for events like the 1990 World Cup with the Three Tenors.

He also scored films like “Dirty Harry” and conducted major orchestras worldwide. Schifrin received an honorary Oscar in 2018 and is survived by his wife, Donna, and children, Ryan, William, and Frances.
