Great Smoky Mountain National Park officials report 25-year-old Gian M. Spagnolo of Venezuela was killed Saturday in a vehicle accident on the Spur (highway between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg). He was driving south when he lost control near Caney Creek Road. Spagnolo reportedly veered off the road and crashed into multiple trees. He was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only occupant in the car.
