FIRE AT WAYNE COUNTY, KENTUCKY, JAIL STARTED BY INMATES

Saturday night, April 13, at 9:24 p.m., Wayne County, Kentucky, deputies were called to the Wayne County Detention Center to assist detention center personnel with investigating a fire started in a cell by inmates.

Responding deputies reviewed video surveillance, conducted a search of the area where the fire was set, then interviewed inmates regarding the fire. At the time of the blaze, there were 214 inmates and four employees present at the Detention Center. An inmate jumpsuit and a blanket in a cloth bag were ignited with an electronic cigarette in an inmate housing area.

Deputies charged 28-year-old Jeffrey Webb and 29-year-old Daniel Biddle, both of Nicholasville, Kentucky, each with one count of first-degree arson and 216 counts of first-degree wanton endangerment. Both are being housed in the detention center.

The investigation is being overseen by the Wayne County Jailer Ronnie Ellis and Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron.
