Emergency crews across Roane County faced an active few days responding to a series of isolated incidents, ranging from electrical outages to gas leaks and domestic smoke calls.

On Monday afternoon, Rockwood Fire and Hazmat crews were dispatched around 2:30 p.m. to a home on Jones Road in the Pond Grove area. While firefighters found no major active fire upon arrival, they located smoke inside the structure to clear the scene safely. Earlier in the day, Rockwood Fire also responded to Gateway Avenue near the Mr. Clean Car Wash after a transformer blew and caught fire. The incident caused a 20-minute power outage in parts of Rockwood before Rockwood Electric Utility (REU) crews quickly restored power.

The busy stretch for local first responders began over the weekend:

• Gas Leak in Harriman: Emergency crews responded to a reported gas leak at the Little Caesars on South Roane Street on Friday night. One person was transported to the hospital for symptoms related to the leak.

• Railroad Injury: Rockwood first responders assisted an injured railroad contractor near Trinity Avenue and Tedder Street on Sunday. The worker reportedly suffered a broken arm while working on the TC Railroad track.

• Mutual Aid: Roane County fire officials also stepped up today to assist neighboring Morgan County firefighters with a residential structure fire along Oakdale Highway.
