FIVE CARS INVOLVED IN CRASH AFTER DRIVER TRAVELS ON WRONG SIDE OF I-140
KNOX COUNTY, TN- An off-duty Knoxville Police Department officer was injured following a multi-car crash that happened on I-140 West Saturday night near the Blount County line.
The investigation into the crash, which happened at around 9 p.m., revealed that a car was traveling eastbound on I-140 West when the collision occurred. A total of five cars were involved in the crash and multiple individuals suffered injuries of various severity. None of the injuries are considered life-threatening.
Among those injured was an off-duty KPD officer, who suffered a broken arm among other injuries. He has since been released from the hospital and is home recovering.
The driver of the wrong-way vehicle was unable to provide a statement on scene due to injury, but there was no initial indication of alcohol or drug impairment. The driver, a 60-year-old man, was cited for reckless endangerment, having no proof of insurance, and driving the wrong way on a one-way street.
