FIVE REPORTS OF STOLEN CARS AT LOCAL QUARRIES IN KNOXVILLE

According to the Knoxville Police Department, between June 22 and June 30, five reports of cars were stolen from either the Fort Dickerson Quarry (3) or Meads Quarry (2). In all five of those cases, the keys to the cars that were stolen were left on the shore and taken at some point while the victim was swimming. The KPD states, “Leaving your keys and other possessions unattended out in the open creates an easy opportunity for would-be thieves. If possible, while enjoying the local quarries, keys and other valuables should be secured in a lockbox that cannot be easily accessed. If you don’t have a lockbox, somebody should always stay nearby possessions left on the shore and remain vigilant of suspicious activity, which should be reported to the police. Car thefts are largely preventable by taking a few simple steps. When leaving your car unattended for any amount of time, always shut off the engine, take your keys, roll up the windows and lock your doors. Remember to also remove any key fobs that can start the engine from the car as well.”
