FLASH FLOODING IN TENNESSEE LEAVES AT LEAST 4 DEAD

Major flash flooding overnight in central Tennessee left four people dead with numerous people trapped by rising waters.

Officers say a 70-year-old man died inside a car that was submerged in a creek near Walmart near the intersection Harding Place and Nolensville Pike in the Nashville area.

A second victim, a 65-year-old man, was found deceased at the Nashboro Village Golf Course. It is believed the man was swept away by high water after getting out of a car that ran off the road into a culvert at Nashboro Boulevard and Flintlock Court

A 64-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman has been found dead near a homeless camp in a wooded area just off Nolensville Pike from flooding from Seven Mile Creek

Accounts included reports of emergency responders assisting people at apartment complexes and drivers traveling along flooded area roadways.

Officials with the Nashville Fire Department says at least 130 people were rescued overnight from flooded areas after more than 7 inches of rain fell in the city.

“Major flash flooding is occurring with numerous roads, interstates and homes flooded with water rescues ongoing!” the National Weather Service wrote in a message overnight. “Please stay home and do not travel!”

Yesterday afternoon, a powerful storm in Lexington, Tennessee, caused significant damage. A tornado had been warned for the area but it wasn’t immediately clear if a tornado had actually struck.

Flooding was reported in sections of Cumberland, Morgan (part of Airport Road) and Bledsoe counties this morning. Damage reports continue to come in as of noon today from the flooding across the state.

Campbell County authorities say an apartment building was flooded and at least ten homes had been evacuated.

At one point late last night, nearly 2/3 of Tennessee was under a flash flood warning.
