FLOOD WATCH ISSUED FOR EAST TENNESSEE: HEAVY RAIN COULD LEAD TO FLOODING
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for portions of East Tennessee, including Blount, Morgan, Rhea, Meigs, Monroe, Roane, Loudon, Bledsoe, Anderson, and McMinn counties. The watch remains in effect from Tuesday afternoon through Thursday morning, with heavy rainfall expected to bring the risk of flooding to the region.
A strong storm system will move through the area, producing multiple rounds of moderate to heavy rain on Tuesday and again on Wednesday afternoon and evening. Forecasters predict two-day rainfall totals between 2 to 4 inches, with some areas seeing even higher amounts. The excessive rainfall could lead to flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying areas, with some waterways potentially overflowing their banks.
Residents in flood-prone areas are urged to stay alert and be prepared to take action if conditions worsen. Authorities remind drivers: “Turn around, don’t drown” when encountering flooded roads, as most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles.
