FLOOD WATCH ISSUED FOR SEVERAL LOCAL COUNTIES INCLUDING CUMBERLAND AND FENTRESS

A flash flood watch has been issued for portions of Middle Tennessee, including counties such as Bedford, Cannon, Clay, Coffee, Cumberland, Davidson, De Kalb, Fentress, Giles, Grundy, Hickman, Jackson, Lawrence, Lewis, Macon, Marshall, Maury, Overton, Perry, Pickett, Putnam, Rutherford, Smith, Sumner, Trousdale, Van Buren, Warren, Wayne, White, Williamson, and Wilson, due to the potential for flash flooding from excessive rainfall.

The watch is in effect from Friday morning through Saturday morning. Showers are expected to develop tonight and intensify on Friday, with the heaviest rainfall occurring Friday night, bringing totals of 2 to 3 inches across much of the area and possibly higher amounts locally.

This could lead to creeks and streams rising out of their banks, flooding in poor drainage and urban areas, and flash flooding of streets and low-lying regions, particularly affecting small streams and tributaries of the Duck River.
