FORD RECALLS OVER 110,000 MUSTANGS OVER WIPER AND DRIVETRAIN DEFECTS

Ford Motor Company is recalling more than 110,000 vehicles across two separate safety campaigns due to issues that could increase the risk of a crash. According to reports from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recalls affect 110,626 total vehicles spanning several Mustang model lines.

The Cold-Weather Wiper Defect

The larger of the two recalls impacts 67,842 vehicles, specifically:

  • 2024–2026 Ford Mustang

  • 2025–2026 Ford Mustang GTD

Under freezing temperatures (32°F or below), the windshield wipers on affected models may malfunction, operating only on their highest speed setting, while the washer fluid system may fail entirely. Reduced visibility in cold or severe weather conditions creates a potential safety hazard.

Timeline & Fix:

  • Initial Notice: Affected owners are scheduled to receive notification letters outlining the risks starting July 8.

  • Final Remedy: A follow-up letter will be sent once replacement parts become available, expected around March 2027.

Mustang Mach-E Differential Risk

A second recall targets 42,784 vehicles involving:

  • 2021–2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E (rear-wheel drive models)

In these electric crossovers, the rear differential pinion shaft is susceptible to bending or fracturing under load. A fractured shaft can cause an abrupt loss of drive power while operating or prevent the vehicle from remaining in “Park,” which could lead to unintended rolling if the electronic parking brake isn’t engaged.

Timeline & Fix:

  • Initial Notice: Notification letters alerting owners to the safety risk will be sent beginning July 13.

  • Final Remedy: Owners will receive a second notification when permanent repairs are ready, expected by December.

What Drivers Should Do

All inspections, repairs, and component replacements associated with both recalls will be performed by authorized Ford dealerships free of charge.

Tip: Vehicle owners can check if their car is affected by visiting NHTSA.gov and entering their 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), or by contacting Ford customer service directly at 1-866-436-7332.
