FOUR-WEEK-OLD INFANT WAS VICTIM OF HOMICIDE IN CHATTANOOGA

Chattanooga police are investigating a homicide involving a four-week-old girl. Police responded late yesterday morning to a medical emergency on the 2200 block of East 27th Street. They found an infant receiving CPR. Hamilton County EMS transported the baby to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Chattanooga Police Violent Crimes investigators have charged 26-year-old Ivan Dunton with criminal homicide and aggravated child abuse. Dunton is in custody at the Hamilton County Jail. An investigation is active and ongoing.

Reports indicate Dunton initially claimed the child fell down a flight of steel and concrete stairs. Police say he later admitted he shook the child violently, put her in a car seat and kicked it down the stairs.

Police say Dunton claimed the incident was prompted by the child’s crying and his anger at his girlfriend.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call the Chattanooga Police Department Homicide Tip Line at (423) 643-5100 or submit an anonymous tip through the Chattanooga PD Mobile App.
