FUNDING CUTS EXPECTED FOR JAMESTOWN REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER

The Centers of Medicaid and Medicare Services announced yesterday that as of next month Jamestown Regional Medical Center will no longer receive Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements.

The Department of Health and Human Services issued a notice of involuntary termination of the hospital’s provider agreement with Medicare and Medicaid. Published reports indicate that could mean the end of the road for the struggling 85-bed facility.

Medicare will make no payment for services to patients admitted to JRMC on or after June 12. For those patients admitted before that deadline, payments for services on or after June 12 may continue for up to 30 days.

A federal investigation made public yesterday revealed Fentress County’s only hospital currently owes more than $4 million to some 200 vendors. And last month, JRMC suffered a partial power shutdown when it failed to pay its $33,000 electric bill.

According to federal officials, the hospital kept portions of employee paychecks withheld for federal taxes.

The hospital, which opened in March 1960 as Fentress County General Hospital, is currently owned by Rennova Health, which has recently been subject to federal tax liens for nonpayment.
