FUNERAL SERVICES ANNOUNCED FOR FALLEN BLOUNT COUNTY DEPUTY

Funeral services have been announced for a fallen Blount County deputy.

Deputy Greg McCowan, age 43, was shot and killed in the line of duty on February 8, 2024

Greg was full of love and life. He enjoyed dirt track racing, traveling, boating, riding motorcycles, restoring cars, and Mustangs. But, more than that, he loved his family. His fiancé, children, and granddaughter were the light of his life. Greg was living his life’s dream of being a police officer. He had a heart to serve and was always wanting and willing to give a helping hand. It was his honor to serve beside his brothers and sisters in blue.

Greg was welcomed into Jesus’ arms by his grandparents: Doris Jean and JW Belt and Ibbie Isaacs and Cloyd McCowan; as well as his pop: William Danny Covington.

Greg leaves behind his loving fiancé: Leah Lane; cherished children: Cayley McCowan (Desmon) and Cayden McCowan (Paige); his beautiful granddaughter: Ella Underwood; parents: Dallas McCowan, and Elizabeth Taulbee and Jeff Hayes; sister: Charity Taulbee; and bonus children: Caven Lane and Jacob Lane.

Greg will be remembered for his love for his family and his contagious smile.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, from 4 until 7 p.m. Eastern at Sevier Heights Baptist Church, 3140 Maloney Road, Knoxville, TN 37920. A funeral service will full police honors will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at 1 p.m. Eastern at Sevier Heights Baptist Church with interment to follow at Grandview Cemetery.
