GAMESTOP IN CROSSVILLE CLOSING

A popular video game store chain is shutting down a location in Crossville.

Officials say the last day Gamestop on North Main Street in Crossville will be open is March 20, 2021.

Last year, GameStop shut down nearly 800 locations. The company plans to close over 1,000 more by the end of March 2021 and the Crossville site appeared on this latest list.

The reason for the store closings was placed on two areas.

Video games retailers have been placed in an increasingly difficult situation for years now mainly to the growing popularity of digital games sales. Digital sales have grown from just 20 percent in 2009 to 83 percent in 2018. This caused profits for the company to drop significantly over the years.

The COVID-19 pandemic has pushed even more people to buy and rent video games online.
