GATLINBURG WOMAN DRAGGED OFF HER PORCH BY BLACK BEAR; BEARS EUTHANIZED
Last night, a woman in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, was bitten and dragged from her porch by a black bear, but sustained no injuries. Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) officers found a yearling bear in a trap set after a prior incident at the same residence, where a bear caused extensive vehicle damage.
An adult female bear and another yearling were also nearby. Due to their food-conditioned and habituated behavior, all three bears were lethally removed as they posed a public safety risk. TWRA follows a Human-Bear Conflict Matrix, and relocation was not viable.
The agency emphasizes proactive measures to reduce bear conflicts, recommending residents use the BearWise.org At Home Checklist to secure attractants.
