GOOD LUCK GETTING STATE TO COVER POTHOLE DAMAGE TO YOUR CAR

The impossible task of getting the state of Tennessee to cover pothole repairs doesn’t have to be that way, according to a state lawmaker.

Two years ago, Ridgetop resident, Lauren Moulten said she hit a pothole two years ago that was about two feet deep.

“It was raining, so I didn’t see it, I hit it, and it blew my tire. I pulled over. And you know, obviously had to get my car towed and everything,” Moulten said.

“I went back and got a picture of it, of how deep it was and everything and, and then I filed with the state of Tennessee and they told me that they were denying it,” she said.Nashville Rep. John Ray Clemmons (D.), encouraged people to reach out to their legislatures to demand the pothole reimbursement process to change.

“That’s why we’re there. If they have a problem, and state government is failing to push for them, reach out to your legislator and let us help you and get to the bottom of your problem,” Clemmons said.

Tennessee’s Department of Transportation’s website states that if drivers believe damage to their vehicle was caused from a pothole they hit on the state’s roadways, they must file a claim through Tennessee’s Department of Treasury.
