GOVERNOR LEE SAYS NO CLEMENCY FOR DEATH ROW INMATE

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announced yesterday he will not intervene to halt Thursday’s scheduled execution of 68-year-old death-row inmate Don Johnson.

Lee said he made the decision after “prayerful and deliberate consideration.”

Religious leaders have pushed for clemency, citing Johnson’s supposed religious conversion.

Johnson will be the fourth person put to death in Tennessee in a year’s time. He was sentenced to death for the murder of his wife, Connie Johnson, in 1984.
